OT Engineered Timber specializes in a comprehensive range of structural laminated beams which sets us apart from the rest, providing customers with creative possibilities for unique and dynamic structures.
Laminated beams, also known as glulam (Grade 8) or lamstock (Grade 5), represent a significant advancement in engineered timber, offering exceptional strength, versatility, and aesthetic appeal.
At OT Engineered Timber, our beams adhere to the highest standards of SANS 1460 and we take great pride in the manufacturing of these structural marvels, combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to meet the diverse demands of modern construction.
The process begins with the careful selection of high-grade timber. Only the finest, defect-free wood is chosen to ensure optimal structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
The selected timber is kiln-dried and planed to achieve the desired moisture content. It is then cut into laminations of uniform thickness. These laminations are coated with a durable adhesive, specifically formulated for high bonding strength and resistance to environmental factors.
The adhesive-coated laminations are stacked and aligned precisely in a press. This stage is critical, as it determines the beam’s final strength and straightness. Advanced hydraulic presses are used to apply uniform pressure, ensuring a seamless bond between the layers.
The assembled beams are cured under controlled conditions to allow the adhesive to set fully. This process guarantees that the beams achieve their maximum structural potential.
After curing, the beams are planed and sanded to achieve a smooth finish. Any necessary cutting or shaping is performed at this stage to meet specific design requirements. The beams are then inspected rigorously to ensure they meet all quality and safety standards.
